PAT TESTING

All electrical systems

Portable Appliance Testing, commonly known as “PAT Testing” is the process where all electrical appliances are routinely checked for safety. Statistics show portable appliances account for 25% of all reportable electrical accidents.

British law (The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989) requires that all electrical systems (including electrical appliances) are maintained (so far as is reasonably practicable) to prevent danger.

Also, following the obligation of The Health & Safety at Work Act (1974), employers have legal responsibility to their employees to comply and ensure no danger results from the use of such equipment in the following circumstances with the provision set:

  • Where employees use appliances

  • Where appliances may be used by the public

  • In places where appliances may be hired or supplied

  • In situations where appliances are serviced or repaired

  • In establishments such as hospitals, schools, hotels, shops, etc.
